Your Mariculture Almanac

Biological crop modeling, in-water monitoring, and farm records for shellfish and seaweed operations. You see where your crop stands, how it will develop, and what that means for the decisions in front of you.

Most farm decisions are made on stale information.

Regional buoys weren't placed with your farm in mind. Water samples tell you what conditions were when you took them. For heat events, harvest windows, seeding timing, and infrastructure you can't see from the dock, experience fills in the rest.

The Almanac gives you a biological read on where your crop stands today and a forecast of how it will develop as conditions change.

We started with biology and worked backward to the instrument.

We built the Digital Oyster and Digital Kelp, proprietary state models of shellfish and seaweed physiology, then derived the environmental signals those models needed, then built Watchline hardware to deliver them. Every measurement in the system serves a specific purpose in the crop model.

Sensing, crop modeling, and farm records were designed as one system. The subscription includes hardware, crop model access, platform, and support.

Biology first, then hardware — from crop model to instrument

The System

Three components that work together in one subscription.

Watchline™ Hardware

Deployed at your lease, measuring the conditions your crop experiences: temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, and proprietary optical factors that feed the crop models directly. Watchline GPS monitors offshore infrastructure. Watchline Dockside covers shore-based and nursery operations.

The Almanac Platform

Tracks stock, infrastructure, and water conditions across all sites. Forecasts how conditions and crop state will develop. Simulates the outcomes of specific decisions so each has a documented rationale: harvest now or in two weeks, relay to a second site, split and thin a dense section. Records farm activity in under a minute from your phone, on or offline.

Digital Oyster™ and Digital Kelp™

Biological models of your crop, updated continuously from seeding through harvest. Condition, stress, growth rate, market readiness. You see where your crop stands and how it will respond to what's coming, and what actions taken now would change that trajectory.

The Crop Models →
Weeks

Seed timing, harvest scheduling, buyer commitments, crew coordination. Enough lead time to adjust.

Days

Approaching thermal events, low-oxygen periods, market windows. Enough time to have real options.

Now

Infrastructure alerts, water quality changes, crop stress signals.

On the Farm

Harvest timing

Your Digital Oyster model shows condition index peaking in 11 days, but a low-oxygen event is forecast for days 8 through 12. The Almanac identifies a harvest window in the next 4 days and confirms the area is clear of closures. You pull early and deliver good product.

Infrastructure

Watchline GPS on your offshore longline array sends an alert at 2am: position has drifted 40 meters. You have a timestamped record and you're on the water by first light. The lease stays clean and the permit stays intact.

The trip you didn't need to make

Conditions are stable. Your crop is on track. The Almanac confirms your read of the season, and you skip the three-hour round-trip inspection. Half a day back in your week, with a sensor record to show why.

Documentation

A buyer or certifier asks for environmental and handling records on a lot you shipped last month. Water quality, stock condition, and intervention history are already in the Almanac. You send the report the same day.

Grounded in marine biology and built for working farms.

Astraeus Ocean Systems was founded to bring the kind of rigorous environmental and biological science usually confined to research institutions into the day-to-day of commercial mariculture.

The Almanac operates within the regulatory framework governing shellfish and seaweed farms, including state growing water classifications and closure programs. Continuous, transparent environmental monitoring supports the case that shellfish and seaweed farms are responsible stewards of shared coastal waters.
